Eric T. Styles
Binge
was created by New Jersey artist and cartoonist Eric T. Styles. Originally
started as a simple comic strip to accompany his artwork on artbystyles.com,
the idea grew into something much larger. "There was just too much
there to cram into four panel strips, complex stories and characters that
would take months to develop in the form of a strip." The format
has been dubbed "The Comic-Script." A pairing of dialogue and
story with captivating storyboard art that plays out in a hilarious half
hour epic.

Influences
"The earliest influence would have to be MAD magazine, I can remember
drawing my own film parodies back in study hall." Two of his characters
were closely based on his relationship with very close friends. Before
the comic strip was even conceived he had nicknamed them "Lance and
Jody." Those handles came from the stoner couple in Taratino's film
Pulp Fiction. Quentin Taratino inspired Styles to go from illustrating
a story to telling a story. Gritty and smart, Binge combines Styles' offbeat
humor with his unique vision of the world around him.

(to Styles)...the mentally disturbed, highly intelligent work of Hunter
S. Thompson himself is an inspiration. John Belushi is another of Eric Styles'
muses...these men are all public figures with distinct personalities that
involve drugs, women and illegal behavior, but yet have enough charm and
intellect in their crafts to be well respected and liked.

Background
Styles' first work as a cartoonist was for local newspapers on the Jersey
shore. Editorial cartoons on the headlines on the eighties. The Gulf War,
savings and loan scandals and Madonna. Binge reflects a background of
Editorial cartoons, political and social observations weave through the
surreal and zany story lines.

The
idea of creating a cartoon series that concerns addictions seemed (and still
does seem) totally unique in the art world. While there have been any number
of movies and books on the subject, I could not recall a single cartoon
that dealt with the topic in such a humorous and provocative manner.

Goals
Styles hopes to create a unique animated series that not intend to shock,
but to provoke. Provoke thought about our short coming and strengths as
individuals and as a group. Every character has their weaknesses and strengths.
An animated series not based on a dysfunctional nuclear family, but a
community. Located in a lower income resort town in a post 9-11 world,
populated by those trying to cope with everyday uncertainty. No cute wise
cracking kids or wisdom filled animals. Real people with real issues.
