BINGE, CARTOON, ADDICTION, COMIC, DYSFUNCTION, ATHENA

Welcome to BiNGE the web comic. Presented in the format of an animation storyboard and script. The story takes place in a run down New Jersey shore town Keysburg Beach. Rather than a family centered story line, BiNGE is friendship oriented. A yuppie stoner couple, Lance and Jody befriend a hapless artist and try to guide him in his chaotic life. BiNGE is a starving artist that aims for red flags on the slalom course of life.

BiNGE's life starts to become more complicated when he establishes an on again / off again relationship with an Internet Domminatrice, Athena DeCruelle. Athena, a former B-Movie actress, fetish model and now full time sadist drags a reluctant BiNGE into her surreal life. Other residents of this beach town include a paranoid boardwalk psychic, alcoholics, crackheads, gimps, aging beauty queens, illegal aliens, space aliens, Russian mobsters and obsessive compulsive types.

Earlier this year (2007), I was invited to another one of Styles' art exhibits in Asbury Park, NJ. Advertised as "The Starving Artist", Eric was hanging out on a street bench, selling the hundreds of storyboard pages he had drawn for "BiNGE", his latest creation. I was totally taken in by the gist of the work, which, in essence, is all about 'addictions'. Realizing the potential and the quality of the work, I purchased all of his storyboard cartoon drawings. They represent the development of all of the characters he had created to date, and they were fascinating. The idea of creating a cartoon series that concerns addictions seemed (and still does seem) totally unique in the art world. While there have been any number of movies and books on the subject, I could not recall a single cartoon that dealt with the topic in such a humorous and provocative manner.
